Fjord (Now Playing) starring Sebastian Stan & Renate Reinsve

This indie domestic drama centered on a Romanian fam that emigrates to Norway has been getting critical acclaim for mos. now, as y’all who’re cinephiles may’ve heard/read. Cristian Munglu (writer/director) was 1st Romanian director to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007). After studying English lit, Munglu worked as a teacher, then journo for several yrs.

The Social Reckoning (Now Playing) starring Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, & Jeremy Strong

I’m seeing (mixed) reviews of this film (sequel to mega-hit The Social Network). This story centers on Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), a young Fb engineer, and Jeff Horwitz, Wall Street Journal reporter. Mark Zuckerberg (Jeremy Strong) is a supporting character; one of his lawyers is played by up-and-coming Brit, Wunmi Mosaku (who I was V impressed w/ in We Own This City and Sinners). I was invited to a screening this past TUES, but then got too busy.

Sense and Sensibility (OCT 16th) starring Daisy Edgar Jones, Esme Creed-Miles, Catriona Balfe, George MacKay, Herbert Nordrum, Frank Dillane, & Fiona Shaw

Official Trailer #1

Official Trailer 2

I was nervous (a few mos. ago), BUT am now I’m (cautiously) optimistic about this (re-imagined) adaptation of Jane Austen’s work. For the book purists, there are a couple of (big) changes, which y’all will NOT like! For those who loved Pride & Prejudice (2005), this should be fun. I’m bummed to NOT have time to see on opening day/wknd, BUT I recommended to my mom to watch.

I Play Rocky (NOV 20th) starring Anthony Ippolito, AnnaSophia Robb, Toby Kebbell, Matt Dillon, Tracy Letts, & Stephan James

I haven’t seen the Rocky movies, BUT am excited to see Stephan James (who plays young Carl Weathers) and an up-and-coming young actor, Anthony Ippolito (who recently played young Al Pacino in Amazon’s The Offer).

Behemoth! (DEC 4th) starring Pedro Pascal, Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor, & Will Arnett

Tony Gilroy (writer/director) recently got a LOT of acclaim for Disney’s Andor series. In the past, he worked on dramas of all types, incl. Michael Clayton, State of Play, and (what figure skating fans love) The Cutting Edge. This also looks like an unique/challenging role for Pedro Pascal.

Elsinore (DEC 2026) starring Andrew Scott, Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Luke Thompson, & Peter Mullan

This film (set in the mid-1980s) centers on actor Ian Charleson (Andrew Scott) as he prepares to play Hamlet (a coveted role for male actors) at the National Theatre (London) while battling a new/deadly illness- AIDS. Olivia Colman plays his doctor. Though primarily a theater actor, Charleson had roles in two blockbuster films: Gandhi and Chariots of Fire. Charleson came from a working-class fam in Edinburgh; Scottish veteren character actor Peter Mullan plays his father.

Dune: Part Three (DEC 18th) starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Mamoa, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, & Anya Taylor-Joy

I’m sure a LOT of y’all are excited for the (last) of the Dune franchise. Here we have 4 of the biggest actors in Hollywood: Timmy C, Zendaya, RPatz (a new addition), and Miss Flo (my personal fave). Paul has become a ruthless (semi-divine) Emperor while a Fremen-led holy war rages in his name.
