In the latest in our occasional series “In Conversation with …” we’re delighted to welcome actor Richard Armitage to Vulpes Libris.

After working steadily for many years as an actor – both in the theatre and on television – most notably in Sparkhouse and Cold Feet – Richard came to sudden prominence in 2004 with the breakthrough role of Victorian cotton mill owner John Thornton in the BBC’s highly-regarded dramatization of Elizabeth Gaskell’s classic North and South.

In October of last year, he joined the cast of  Spooks as Lucas North, and has recently met his end as Guy of Gisborne in the BBC’s iconoclastic take on Robin Hood.

He recently very kindly took some time out of an insanely busy schedule to answer a few questions for us:

You may have seen American actor Aaron Tveit (b. 1983) in the newest Les Mis film, acting and singing alongside young Brit, Eddie Redmayne, and Australian (superstar) Hugh Jackman.  He plays Enjolras, the serious-minded leader of the student group dedicated to making political change in France.  He is close friends with Marius (Redmayne), the student who falls instantly in love with Cosette (Amanda Seyfried, another American).  Aaron’s singing voice is very strong (in my opinion) and he handled the role very well.   Not sure if those curls are his real hair, but they look great!  The songs sounded very natural coming from him.

Marius, I don’t doubt you mean it well…  Who cares about your lonely soul…  we strive toward a larger goal.  Our little lives don’t count at all!

I first noticed Aaron on a recent ep of SVU.  He played a former promising HS b-ball player turned junkie who was a catalyst for bringing down a pedophile coach who preyed on many boys over the course of his career (reminiscent of that notorious case in Pittsburgh).  It was a very compelling episode, in part b/c of Aaron’s performance.  (Sidenote: Seyfried appeared in an episode of SVU back in 2004.)

Aaron has appeared in the theater (including Broadway) and had notable guest spots on a few TV series.  He auditioned (along with a huge crowd of young actors) for the role of Finn on Glee.  You can find out more on Aaron’s IMDB page.

I am one of a group of 7 who traveled to Wellington from around the world to attend the Wellington premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Most of us had never met in person before, but knew each other from various online sources — some of us tweet, others are AA or C19 forum participants. At our core were two ladies who are friends in real life, who organized tireless, and, in my case, encouraged me to come out of my shell a little.

I never expected to be someone who, in the prime of my life, would stand with friends alongside a red carpet. But I never realized how much fun it would be.
